Japan: Jan LNG Imports at 8.15 Million Tonnes

Japan’s LNG imports reached 8.15 million mt in January, a rise of 28.2 percent compared to a year earlier, according to preliminary data released today by the finance ministry.

The country’s LNG import cost averaged $864.62/mt in January.

Japan, the world’s largest LNG importer, imported 7,171,000 mt of LNG in December, up 13.5 percent from a year before.

Japan’s monthly LNG imports have been rising steadily year on year, due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
