Aqualis Offshore wins Bahrain LNG work

Aqualis Offshore, part of Oslo-listed Aqualis has been contracted by the South Korean Oceanus to provide specialist floatover services for an LNG regasification platform topside offshore Bahrain. 

GS E&C the EPC contractor for the project hired Oceanus to provide transportation and installation, Aqualis’ statement reads, adding that Aqualis Offshore will deliver the project as a subcontactor to Oceanus.

Oceanus will transport the 7,000 tons topside from Laem Chabang, Thailand, to its final destination at the LNG terminal location in Bahrain.

The scope of work for Aqualis Offshore’s subcontract includes the provision of project management services, specialist floatover engineering, and supervision for loadout and floatover installation operations.

Aqualis Offshore’s work starts immediately and the company’s involvement will run until the third quarter in 2018, with the contract value remaining undisclosed.

The new facilities will include a fixed platform for unloading LNG carriers, a newbuild FSU (floating storage unit) and an onshore receiving facility which together comprise the LNG import terminal development in the Bahrain.

The import terminal project is being developed by Bahrain LNG, a jointly owned by the Oil and Gas Holding Company (nogaholding) and a consortium consisting of Teekay LNG Partners, Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) and Samsung C&T (Samsung).

The LNG import terminal will be located offshore approximately 4 km east of the onshore receiving facility at the Khalifa Bin Salman port. It will have a capacity of 800 million standard cubic feet per day.

Teekay LNG will supply the FSU, which will be modified specifically for this project, through a 20-year time-charter agreement.
