Australia: second tanker due at GLNG this week

A second liquefied natural gas carrier is expected to dock at the GLNG jetty on Curtis island off Gladstone this week.

LNG tanker Cool Voyager, with a capacity of 160,000 cbm, is due to arrive at the Santos-operated US$18.5 billion LNG plant around October 21, according to Gladstone port shipping data.

The final destination of the Thenamaris-operated LNG vessel is currently unknown.

Gladstone port data also reveals that the 155,000 cbm Yenisei River is scheduled at the GLNG plant on October 28 to pick up the third cargo of the chilled gas produced from the venture.

Santos did not respond to an e-mail by LNG World News seeking comment regarding the matter by the time this article was published.

First GLNG cargo

The first GLNG cargo left the liquefaction plant on Friday on board the MISC-operated Seri Bakti and it is on its way to Kogas’ LNG terminal in Incheon, South Korea.

The first cargo from GLNG strengthens our position as a major and competitive LNG supplier to Asia,” Santos CEO David Knox said on Friday.

The 7.8 mtpa GLNG plant started producing liquefied natural gas from Train 1 in September this year.

Work on the second train is continuing to progress well, and it is expected to be ready for start-up by the end of the year with first LNG in the second quarter 2016, Knox added.

Once fully operational, the LNG plant will be able to load about two LNG ships per week, or more than 100 per year.

Australia’s Santos has a 30% interest in GLNG. Other co-venturers include Petronas (27.5%), Total (27.5%) and Kogas (15%).
