DEME's LNG-powered multipurpose vessel launched

DEME’s LNG-powered offshore multipurpose vessel, the Living Stone has been launched on Sunday at the LaNaval shipyard close to Bilbao, Spain. 

The Living Stone, that can accommodate a crew of up to 100 persons, is powered by dual-fuel engines with LNG being the primary fuel, DEME, the Belgian dredging and marine engineering company said in its statement.

The subsea cable installation/trenching vessel is equipped with two turntables below deck, each having a 5,000 tons cable capacity and is is capable of transporting more than 200 km of cable.

It can also be equipped with a third carousel above deck with an additional load capacity of 2,000 tons and a 600 tons crane.

The vessel, to be deployed by DEME’s unit Tideway, will head to its first project at the Merkur offshore wind farm in Germany, 45 km north of Borkum in the North Sea, for the installation of inter-array cables, following its scheduled delivery in the second quarter of 2017.

It will also be deployed for the cable installation at the offshore wind farm Hornsea Project One in the UK.
