EPA voices more concerns over LNG projects in Texas

After it recently sent a letter of concern regarding Freeport LNG environmental impact, EPA’s region 6 office in Dallas, voiced more concern to the FERC regarding two other LNG export terminal projects in Texas.

EPA requested the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Comission to further examine the environmental impact of Corpus Christi LNG and Cameron LNG, stating that the recent environmental reviews were inadequate.

New requests ask FERC to address whether there are disproportionate effects on the majority, minority or lower income communities and proposed mitigation measures.

In its comment on the Cameron LNG DEIS, EPA suggested that “FERC consider the potential for increased natural gas production as a result of the proposed export terminal and the potential for environmental impacts associated with these potential increases.”

After reviewing the Corpus Christi LNG project DEIS, EPA recommended FERC to “include a functional wetlands assessment, compensatory mitigation plan and a finalized copy of the ARMP in the Final EIS.”
