Europe Wants to Purchase Gas from Iran, Says Official

A senior Iranian diplomat says European countries want to purchase natural gas from Iran.

“We can sell our gas to Turkey or Europe. Europe is very eager to buy gas from Iran,” Ebrahim Rahimpour, Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs said, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

Earlier this month, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said five European countries are planning to purchase Iran’s natural gas through a major pipeline that Iran plans to construct.

In late November, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu expressed his country’s preparedness to assume the role of an energy corridor for Iran.

Yildiz said Turkey would also raise its gas imports from Iran – currently standing at 10 billion cubic meters a year – if possible.
