Gas supply from Lithuania's LNG terminal soars in 2016

Gas supply from Lithuania’s LNG terminal in the port of Klaipeda to the gas transmission system rose 220 percent in 2016, compared to the year before.

The LNG terminal supplied 14.611 million megawatt hours of gas to the supply system in, Klaipedos Nafta, the terminal operator said in its statement.

Apart from LNG handling operations, Klaipedos Nafta implemented a number of investment projects aimed at optimal operation of the infrastructure, Marius Pulkauninkas, acting managing director of the company, said.

According to Pulkauninkas, the company intends to intensify the LNG export operations, which started this year with a small-scale LNG reload operation in the port of Klaipeda.

Skangas-chartered Coral Energy loaded 15,000 cubic meters of LNG from the FSRU Independence that serves as the Lithuanian LNG import terminal during the first days of January.

It is estimated that LNG terminal’s income was at €67 million (Approx: US$70.4 million) in 2016, dropping over 4 percent compared to €69.9 million (Approx: $73.5 million) in 2015.

With the addition of LNG handling, Klaipedos Nafta noted in its statement that it has handled 7.338 million tons of petroleum products, the largest volume of petroleum products since 2011.
