French liquefied natural gas containment system specialist, GTT has been contracted by Samsung Heavy Industries to design the tanks for an LNG carrier newbuild.

The South Korean shipyard said it is building the vessel for the Japanese ship-owner Nisshin Shipping, GTT said in its statement.

The tanks, capable of holding 174,400 cubic meters of LNG of the ship will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

The delivery is scheduled during the first quarter of 2022, GTT’s statement reads.

Commenting on the order, GTT’s CEO and chairman Philippe Berterottière noted it marks the entry of Nisshin Shipping into the LNG industry.
