The price of spot liquefied natural gas contracted during the month of October rose according to the data by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

The contract-based price reached $10.7 per mmBtu, up slightly from $10.6 per mmBtu in the previous month. However, there was a 30.5 percent increase compared to the $8.2 per mmBtu reported in the corresponding month last year.

Data shows that the arrival-based price also rose, from $10.1 per mmBtu in September to $10.6 per mmBtu, showing a 5 percent rise.

Compared to October 2017, when the price of LNG arriving in Japan was at $6.1 per mmBtu, this represents a 73.8 percent jump.

Only spot LNG cargoes are taken into account in this assessments, excluding short, medium and long-term contract cargoes, as well as those linked to a particular price index.
