South Korean oil and gas industry service provider Khan received approval in principle (AIP) for the LNG ISO tank container feed vessel from American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Khan noted it conducted an analysis of the world LNG logistics and demand/supply market during the five months from July last year, developing the applicable particulars and specification of the ship.

Also, since April of this year, Khan has been developing the LNG ISO tank container feed vessel using LNG as a fuel, with ABS providing technical information for developing the vessel, especially in the field of LNG fuel supply system and LNG handling system.

International Maritime Organization is strengthening its regulations for marine environmental protection due to rapid global environmental changes.

Thus the demand for LNG fueled vessels and vessels with LNG fuel-gas propulsion system has been gradually increasing, Khan said in a statement.

Additionally, LNG fuels are gaining popularity as clean energy fuels, which leads to the production growth, the rapid increase in demand and more active transportation trend, therefore LNG infrastructure construction projects are picking up.

However, many developing and archipelago countries are facing difficulties when developing gas supply infrastructure due to high cost and lengthy construction period, and they are in shortage of demand.

In line with these LNG supply projects Khan together developed FEED design of the advanced concept multi-purpose LNG supply line. This multi-purpose vessel that can supply LNG to both ship and shore is the first of its kind in the domestic and overseas market.

The 119m long 25.5 m wide vessel is designed to carry up to 4,800 cubic meters of LNG in Type C-tank and 40ft LNG ISO container. The number of tanks and capacity can be adjusted in accordance with the purpose and requirements.

Therefore the capacity of LNG tank storage has the advantage of being able to fully satisfy the supply and demand cycle of the archipelago area and area along the shore, Khan said.

This propulsion system can be used with the dual fuel of LNG and MGO.
