Matrix Service wins JAX LNG storage tank job

Matrix Service Company said its unit, Matrix Service, won the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction contract for an LNG storage tank for the JAX LNG bunker facility at Dames Point near the Port of Jacksonville.

The tank at the new LNG liquefaction and storage facility will have the capacity to store, two million gallons of liquefied natural gas,  Matrix Service said in its statement.

JAX LNG is a joint venture formed by Pivotal LNG a wholly-owned unit of Southern Company Gas, NorthStar Midstream, a midstream transportation company backed by funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management and Clean Marine Energy.

The joint venture supplies LNG to TOTE Maritime’s world’s firs LNG dual fuel containerships,  the Isla Bella and Perla del Caribe.

The facility is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2017 and capable of producing more than 120,000 gallons of LNG per day.

According to the statement, the Jacksonville plant will be North America’s first small-scale coastal LNG facility and will include marine distribution capabilities utilizing North America’s first LNG bunker barge, Clean Jacksonville.

Currently, LNG for TOTE’s two LNG-powered containerships is currently being supplied to JAX LNG through an agreement with Pivotal LNG.
