Merkel welcomes LNG cooperation with Qatar

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Germany made progress in the cooperation in the energy sector with Qatar as she hosted the visit of Qatari ruler Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Merkel noted that the LNG sector was striding ahead while she expects an even closer cooperation in the years to come, reports Reuters.

Qatar will certainly play an important role in the future as EU member states look for further diversification of gas supplies and cutting the dependance on Russian gas.
