Monadelphous secures more Ichthys LNG work

Engineering company Monadelphous has won additional work on the Inpex-operated multi-billion Ichthys LNG project in Australia.

Monadelphous said in a statement on Tuesday it had been awarded a subcontract for structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation work for Kawasaki Heavy Industries on the cryogenic tanks at the Ichthys plant in Bladin Point near Darwin.

Besides this work, Monadelphous secured new contracts in North America, Australia and New Zealand with a combined value of about $125 million.

This Ichthys deal follows the recently awarded contract to Monadelphous for maintenance services and brownfield projects implementation associated with the Ichthys central processing facility.

To remind, Inpex announced in April it had postponed the start of the giant LNG project.

First LNG from the project is now expected by March 31 next year.

The Ichthys project is expected to produce 8.9 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of LPG each year, along with more than 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.

The project is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
