Naming ceremony for UECC’s 2nd LNG-fueled car carrier

A naming ceremony for an LNG-powered car and truck carrier owned by United European Car Carriers (UECC) is to take place in the Copenhagen Malmö Port on Tuesday.

The carrier to be named Auto Energy is a sister vessel to the world’s first LNG-powered PCTC Auto ECO, that was christened in the port of Zeebrugge in November last year.

Both of the vessels are equipped with a dual-fuel engine (ME-GI engine) for both the main and auxiliary engines.

The Auto Energy was delivered to United European Car Carriers, a joint venture by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) shipyard in China in November.

The vessel has a capacity to transport nearly 4000 vehicles, including 6000 square meters of high and heavy cargo on 10 decks with a maximum cargo weight of 160 mt.

According to UECC, Auto Energy is able to complete a fourteen-day round trip solely using LNG as fuel.

The Auto Energy was also designed to meet the Finnish-Swedish ice class 1A super specifications, thus allowing it for full-year trading in the Baltic area, where ice is common in winter, and to comply with sulphur regulations.
