First small-scale LNG reload operation in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda took place on Monday, January 2, natural gas trading company, Litgas, part of Lietuvos Energia, said. 

Skangas-chartered Coral Energy loaded 15,000 cubic meters of LNG from the FSRU Independence that serves as the Lithuanian LNG import terminal. The cargo will be further transported to one of the small-scale LNG terminals in the coastal regions of the Baltic Sea.

The operation is the first under a contract signed between Statoil of Norway, as the LNG supplier and the two Lithuanian natural gas trading companies Litgas and Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas, both part of Lietuvos Energija that aims to boost the development of the small-scale LNG market in the Baltic region.

In a statement at the end of December, Skangas informed that it has signed the agreement with Statoil for the first small-scale LNG reload at the Lithuanian LNG terminal. It was also the first time Skangas sourced LNG from Statoil, the company then said.

Litgas further added in its statement that the Lithuanian LNG terminal is currently the only facility in the Baltic Sea that can reload liquefied natural gas to smaller LNG carriers.
