Poland to get Norwegian spot LNG cargo

Poland’s state-owned gas company PGNiG has bought a cargo of spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Norway’s Statoil.

Delivery from Norway will be the second spot supply from this country that will land at Poland’s Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal in Świnoujście.

Poland also received two spot deliveries from the USA and Qatar.

LNG tanker Arctic Discoverer is currently on its way from Statoil’s Hammerfest liquefaction plant and is expected to arrive in Świnoujście on September 9.

The vessel is carrying a load of about 140,000 cubic metres of LNG, which equals about 84 mcm of natural gas following regasification, PGNiG said in a statement on Monday,

„PGNiG trading office, opened in London in February 2017, has become fully operational. It allows for monitoring the LNG market, instantly seizing opportunities and taking advantage of attractive offers. Thanks to spot deliveries we can profitably complement our portfolio of gas supplies,” said Piotr Woźniak, President of PGNiG’s Management Board.

“Norwegians have been proven partners not only at cooperating on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, but also at LNG contracts,” he added.

Since June 2016 until August 2017 Poland has received almost 2.1 bcm of natural gas following regasification. Only in 2018, Poland will receive about 2.9 bcm based on the long-term contract between PGNiG and the world’s largest LNG producer, Qatargas, PGNiG noted in the statement.

Polish first LNG terminal in Świnoujście is the country’s flagship project to diversify gas supplies and reduce dependence on pipeline imports from Russia.

PGNiG is in charge for all the LNG supplies coming to the import terminal operated by Gaz-System’s unit Polskie LNG. The facility officially opened in June last year.
