QGC’s Increasing Indigenous Participation Acknowledged

QGC, developer of the Queensland Curtis LNG Project (QCLNG), has been rewarded for its commitment to indigenous employment, training and economic development.

The recognition came during National Reconciliation Week, which ends today.

QGC was named Best Company at the Queensland Resources Council Indigenous Participation Awards for its employment, training and business development strategy and Reconciliation Action Plan.

The company was also a finalist in the business category of the Queensland Reconciliation Awards and staff member Bradley Maher was an individual finalist in the Queensland Resources Council’s Indigenous Champion award.

Examples of QGC’s indigenous initiatives include:

  • 319 indigenous employees working directly for QGC or major contractors;
  • The largest contract, worth A$13.4 million, to an indigenous organization;
  • Investment of A$500,000 in a heavy machinery training program.

QGC Vice President Sustainability Brett Smith said QGC remained committed to closer and more comprehensive engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“We have worked hard in developing the QCLNG Project to ensure indigenous people are given opportunities wherever possible,” Smith said.

“These awards are a pleasing reminder that indigenous Australians are finding work with us, improving skills and developing sustainable businesses,” he added.
