A christening ceremony has been held for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier chartered by Nordic LNG supplier Skangas in Finland’s Port of Turku on Thursday.

To remind, LNG World News reported on this development last week.

The Ice Class 1A Super LNG carrier with a carrying capacity of 18,000-cbm has been officially named Coral EnergICE. The small-scale vessel uses the boil off of its cargo to fuel its propulsion.

It is specially designed and constructed to operate in the Baltic Sea. The vessel’s hull is reinforced to break through one-meter thick ice with the engines and generators designed to give the vessel extra power when sailing through thick ice and harsh winter conditions, according to Skangas.

Skangas, which is a unit of Gasum, and Dutch shipping company Anthony Veder, the owner of the vessel, signed a long-term time-charter deal for the carrier back in 2016.

The tanker was built at German shipyard Neptun Werft. It is expected to soon start with regular LNG deliveries to Pori and Tornio terminals in Finland.

Also worth mentioning, Anthony Veder funded the construction of the vessel via a 66 million euros ($81m) sustainable shipping loan.
