Norway’s Statoil said on Thursday it has named former Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer to its board of directors.

He was recommended for the position on March 15 by the Statoil’s nomination committee.

Van der Veer that has served as CEO of Royal Dutch Shell in the period 2004 to 2009, when he retired. Van der Veer thereafter continued as a non-executive director on the board of Shell until 2013, Statoil said in a statement.
