Taiwan ups June LNG imports

Taiwan imported 1.54 million mt of LNG in June, up 17.8% from the same month a year before, and a 5.4% rise from May, according to the data released by the Directorate General of Customs.

Qatar, the world’s top LNG exporter, remained the biggest supplier of the fuel to Taiwan in the month under review.

LNG imports from Qatar reached 378,925 mt in June. However, as compared to the year before they were down 14%.

Russia was the second-biggest supplier of LNG to Taiwan in June with 257,596 mt, almost flat on year.

Malaysia supplied 241,880 mt of LNG in the month under review, while 238,181 mt were delivered to Taiwan in June from Papua New Guinea, the customs data shows.

The rest of the June LNG imports came from Indonesia, Algeria, Peru, Nigeria and the US.

Taiwan, the world’s fifth largest LNG buyer, paid about $574 million for LNG imports in June, according to the data.

The country currently imports the chilled fuel via two regasification terminals, located in the central and southern parts of the island.
