Tallink launches name contest for new LNG ferry

Tallink Grupp said it has launched a name contest for its new LNG fast ferry.

People are invited to share their ideas on the company’s webpage.

The name for the new shuttle vessel for the Tallinn-Helsinki route will be announced in the beginning of 2016, Tallink said in a statement.

Janek Stalmeister, the CEO of AS Tallink Grupp said that the newbuilding is a new milestone for the fast ferry service on Tallinn-Helsinki route and the name should reflect the essence of the service. „Current shuttle vessels are named Star and Superstar, we are exited to see, what our customers and future customers will think is suitable for the new ship“, added Stalmeister.

The LNG vessel`s construction started on 4th of August at Meyer Turku shipyard, Finland. The keel laying is expected to take place in the end of 2015.

The ship will cost around 230 million Euros and will be built at Turku shipyard for delivery in the beginning of 2017.

The new ferry will be about 212 metres in length with a gross tonnage of 49 000. The ship will operate on the route between Helsinki and Tallinn and she is planned to carry 2800 passengers.
