Van Der Kamp’s dredger to get LNG fuel tank

Dutch maker of cryogenic equipment Crynorm has completed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel tank that will be installed onboard Van der Kamp’s hopper dredger Ecodelta.

The LNG fuel tank was heading on Monday for the Dutch yard Barkmeijer where the Ecodelta is being built, Crynorm said in a statement.

The tank has a capacity of 325 cubic meters with the tank connection space holding both vaporizers and all required valves and safeties. It weighs about 88 tons with an overall length of about 12 meters, according to Cryonorm.

Crynorm won the order back in November 2016 to supply the LNG marine fuel system for the dredger from Engie.

The Ecodelta is expected to be delivered to its owner, shipping company Van der Kamp, in 2018.

The LNG-powered vessel will replace an old dredger as a part of a new maintenance contract signed between the port of Rotterdam and Van der Kamp for keeping the harbors in Rotterdam in right depth until 2023.

It will be one of the world’s first LNG-powered dredgers to hit the water.

A unit of the Hague-based energy giant Shell has been previously contracted by Van der Kamp to supply LNG to the Ecodelta.
