Woodside issues Browse FLNG draft EIS

Australia’s Woodside Petroleum released the draft environmental impact statement for the proposed Browse FLNG project.

Woodside and its JV partners proposed to utilise the FLNG concept to commercialise the resources in the Browse basin, some 425 km offshore Broome in Western Australia.

In the draft EIS, Woodside stated that the FLNG development is nearing completion of the base of design and without giving any construction figures noted that the FLNG is the most likely and commercially viable option.

The company also informed that the FEED phase will be completed 12 months after the completion of the base of design phase. Upon completion of the FEED, the final investment decision is expected with the offshore drilling expected two years after that.

Commissioning of the FLNG facility with a production phase of a 40 to 50-year lifespan is expected 5-8 years after the FID.

The JV plans as many as three FLNG facilities each capable of producing 3.9 million tons a year of LNG.

The Browse FLNG Development encompasses the Brecknock, Calliance and Torosa reservoirs, and are estimated to contain gross (100%) contingent resources of 14.9 tcf of dry gas and 441.2 million barrels of condensate.

Members of the Browse JV are Woodside, Shell, BP, Mimi and PetroChina.
